Kennedy Cares is a small community charity founded in 2014 with a heartfelt mission to support individuals and families within the Hillsborough & Pasco community. The organization was inspired by the Co-founder, Jodi C's daughter, Kennedy, who possesses a compassionate heart and a strong desire to assist those in need. Co-founder Sandra Parlett is part of the original team and serves as the Director. Over the years, Kennedy Cares' scope of work has expanded to address the community's growing needs. In 2017, the group became Kennedy Cares Tampa Bay and secured its non-profit designation. From 2021 to 2022, our membership grew by more than 1,000 new members, bringing our total membership to 5,500, and is continuing to grow with an average of 1000 new members each year.
Kennedy Cares Tampa Bay (KCTB) is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity support program that provides essential resources to individuals and families experiencing economic hardships. Support may include (but is not limited to) diapers, childcare supplies, small household goods and appliances, clothing, toiletries, etc. We provide services to Hillsborough & Pasco Counties.
The community support group is 100% volunteer-driven, and our charity organization operates solely from monetary contributions and donated supplies.
Our core mission is to offer short-term aid to individuals and families facing financial difficulties by supplying essential items for health, well-being, and daily care. We concentrate on providing clothing, hygiene products for vulnerable infants and children, and fundamental household necessities. Additionally, our community charity furnishes guidance on financial, housing, and employment resources.
We strive to provide a safe place for individuals and families to help each other. No money is exchanged between members; only individuals help each other. Our long-term goal and overall impact is to foster a community of neighbors helping neighbors, which in turn will build a strong and resilient community.
We rely on our local neighborhoods, Facebook groups, Organizations, Charity Organizations, and other networking supporters. We are grateful for the donations that we have received that has allowed us to grow over the years. Kennedy Cares Tampa Bay hopes that we will continue to be blessed by all of our communities with their new and gently used items to allow the mission to continue to thrive and grow.
Our vision at Kennedy Cares is one in which we envision a future where every individual has equal access to opportunities, inclusion, and resources. Our leadership team strives to create a compassionate, inclusive community that empowers individuals to reach their full potential.
We offer a variety of resources and support to help our members get back on their feet. Job training and mental health counseling are two resources we provide that are necessary to help individuals achieve their goals.
KCTB also collaborates with other local agencies, including Catholic Charities, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department, Metropolitan Ministries, and Dawning Family Services, to share resources, foster cross-community relations, and extend the reach of support.
As a mother of 5 children, I was looking for help on Facebook. I found KCTB. Sandy, the Director reached out to me and has offered help and resources coupled with food and clothing from the facility. I have had 3 surgeries in the last year, which caused financial setbacks at work. I enjoy giving my time to help support the KCTB mission. I know that KCTB will be there if I fall on hard times. I honestly don't see how I would have made it out here without KCTB.
